I wanted to hear the long version where little homie stepped off the bus in New York City and got gaffled !!  it’s rough out in those streets, they should have known how things were working!!

Didn’t want to spaz, rolling down I-85 towards Charlotte, the Queen City, one step ahead of Operation Southern Shield!! trying to get our minds right while the Sun and Mercury which was retrograde are in conjunction; so how will we play this? 

Didn’t want to spaz, we’re trying to build; what more can I say about it? back in the ATL dropping some soul jazz or jazz funk son!!

Trying to get our minds right, plus doing this for my constituents; that’s our function!!

Digital Crate Digging Continues!! we’re checking out this classic funk from  Dennis Coffey – with a track called SCORPIO (Soul Train).

This features the Soul Train Dancers from episode #17, January 22, 1972.

Dennis Coffey is then followed by  Don Cornelius signing off playing “Hot Potato (Piping Hot)” by King Curtis, as the episode fades out. Classic material cousin!! Check it out!!

Black Uhuru cuts from the MIDNIGHT RAVER vinyl vaults

Checking out this dub / roots reggae from Black Uhuru courtesy of the Midnight Raver blog!!




Several vinyl cuts from Jah Raver’s vinyl collection featuring interesting and noteworthy Black Uhuru selections.

The first appears on Black Uhuru’s debut album LOVE CRISIS which was released in 1977 on the Jammy’s label.  The single, released on a Jammy’s 7″ 45 rpm vinyl record, is credited to Black Sound of Ultro, one of several names the group experimented with before deciding on Black Uhuru.  To read more check my interview with Uhuru founder Garth Dennis.



The second tune is Michael Rose performing Bob Marley’s “Sun Is Shining” backed by Sly & Robbie.  Issued on a Hitbound 7″ in 1974.  According to Sly, he was producing tracks for Michael Rose and his brother in 1974.  After his brother tragically died in a car crash, Rose focused on…
